Exports & Readiness

Exporting releases to SoundExchange, Panorama, and checking DistroKid readiness

Each release has an Exports tab where you can generate files for submission to collection societies and check readiness for distributors.

Where the Data Comes From

Export files are assembled from three different levels of data in Songkeeper. You don't need to re-enter anything for exports — the information is pulled automatically from what you've already filled in across your songs, recordings, and the release itself.

  • Release — Title, artists, UPC, catalog number, release date, record company, label / imprint, territories, artwork, and streaming links. This is what you fill in on the release form.
  • Song — Songwriters, publishing splits, ISWC, genre, language, and copyright year. Each track on a release links to a song, and the export pulls this composition-level data directly.
  • Recording version — ISRC, master ownership, credits, non-featured performers, label name, version title, BPM, duration, recording date, country of recording, country of mastering, and explicit content flag. Each track on a release links to a specific recording version.
Keep source data up to date
Since exports pull directly from your songs and recordings, updating a songwriter's name on the song or changing master ownership on the recording version will automatically be reflected the next time you export. You don't need to update the release itself.

SoundExchange Export

Generates an Excel file matching SoundExchange's official ISRC Ingest Form. When you export, you'll choose your basis of claim (Copyright Owner or Authorized Collection Designee), collection rights dates, and territories.

Key fields and how they're derived:

  • Recording Artist — Uses the track's primary artists. If a track has no artists assigned, falls back to the release-level artists.
  • Percentage Claimed — Uses the first master owner's royalty percentage. Defaults to 100% if no master ownership is set.
  • Release Label — See Labels & Record Companies for the full fallback chain.
  • P-Line — Year + label name, using the track label, then release label, then primary master owner. See Labels & Record Companies.
  • Version — Included only if the recording version title is something other than “Original” or “Original Version”.

Panorama Export

Generates an Excel file for SoundExchange's Panorama declarative form, used for sound recording rights registration. When you export, you'll provide a rights holder name, percentage, territory preferences, rights dates, and a payment reference ID.

Key differences from the SoundExchange ISRC Ingest Form:

  • Record Company — Uses the Record Company field (not Label / Imprint). Defaults to “Independent” if blank. See Labels & Record Companies.
  • First Maker — Lists all master owners separated by slashes, along with their nationalities. Unlike the SoundExchange form which picks a single primary owner, Panorama includes every master owner.
  • Artist nationalities — Required for both release-level and track-level artists. Set each artist's country in their artist profile to populate this.
  • Country codes — All countries are exported as ISO 3166-1 alpha-3 codes (e.g., “CAN” instead of “CA”).
  • UPC is required — Unlike DistroKid, Panorama requires a UPC / EAN on the release.

Panorama Required Fields

At the release level:

  • Product title, primary artist, record company, distributor, UPC, and release date

Per track:

  • Track title, track artist, ISRC, duration, country of recording, year of recording, and at least one master owner with nationality

DistroKid Readiness

The DistroKid readiness check shows what metadata you have filled in and what's missing before submitting to DistroKid. It doesn't generate an export file — it's a checklist.

Required Fields

  • Primary artist (album)
  • Album title (album)
  • Artwork (album)
  • At least one track (album)
  • Genre (album) — must match a DistroKid genre
  • Track title (per track)
  • Audio file (per track)

UPC is not checked
DistroKid generates its own UPC codes, so Songkeeper does not flag a missing UPC in the readiness check. If you already have a UPC you can still enter it on the release, but it's not required.
