Getting Started

Set up your account and create your first song

This guide walks you through the essential setup and helps you create your first song in Songkeeper.

1. Set Up Your Songwriter Info

Head to Settings → Account and fill in your songwriter details. This information is used when generating split sheets and metadata exports:

  • Legal name — Your full name as it should appear on contracts
  • PRO affiliation — Your performing rights organization (ASCAP, BMI, SESAC, etc.)
  • IPI/CAE number — Your international identification number if you have one

2. Add Your ISRC Prefix (Optional)

If you have a registered prefix, add it in Settings → Account. Songkeeper will use this to auto-generate ISRCs for new recordings. If you don't have one yet, you can skip this and add ISRCs manually later.

3. Choose a Plan

Visit Settings → Billing to select a plan. The free tier lets you try out the core features. Upgrade when you need more storage or want to share projects with clients.

4. Create Your First Song

Go to Songs and click New Song. Enter a title and Songkeeper will create the song along with an "Original" recording version.

From the song page, you can:

  • Upload audio files (demos, mixes, stems)
  • Add songwriters and their ownership splits
  • Link artists to the recording

5. Try Creating a Project

If you're working on an album, EP, or client session, create a project to group your songs together. Projects let you track progress, manage tasks, and share files with collaborators.

When you create a new song, you can link it to a project so the recording version is automatically associated with that body of work.
