Organizing Ideas

Use tags, starred ideas, pins, trim points, markers, notes, filters, and bulk actions to organize rough song ideas.

Ideas can move quickly from a few voice memos to a large backlog. Songkeeper keeps organization lightweight: add just enough context to find the right idea later without turning every capture into a full song record.

Quick answer
Use stars for strong ideas, pins for ideas that need immediate attention, tags for grouping, notes for context, markers for important timestamps, and linked filters to find ideas that have or have not been copied into songs.

Organization Tools

ToolUse It For
TagsGroup ideas by theme, instrument, session, client, or workflow.
StarsMark favorite ideas and filter the list down to them.
PinsKeep important ideas easy to surface while you review the list.
Trim pointsSet the playback start and end range without replacing the original file.
MarkersAdd labeled points at timestamps inside the recording.
NotesSave lyrics, arrangement context, session notes, or next steps.

Filtering the Ideas List

The Ideas page can filter by search text, starred status, pinned status, linked status, and tags. Linked filters are useful when you want to separate unused ideas from ideas already copied into songs.

Bulk Actions

Selection mode lets you work on multiple ideas at once. Bulk actions are available from the action bar after you select one or more ideas.

  • Add selected ideas to the same song and version.
  • Create a new song from selected ideas.
  • Add or remove tags across selected ideas.
  • Star, unstar, pin, or unpin selected ideas.
  • Delete selected ideas and their source audio files.

A Practical Review Flow

  1. Filter to unlinked ideas.
  2. Listen through the backlog with keyboard playback.
  3. Star the strongest captures and tag related ideas.
  4. Use bulk actions to create a song or add related ideas to an existing recording version.
