Acceptable Use Policy

This Acceptable Use Policy ("AUP") outlines the rules and guidelines for using Songkeeper's services. This AUP is part of our Terms of Service and applies to all users of the Service. Violations of this policy may result in suspension or termination of your account.

1. General Conduct

You agree to use Songkeeper responsibly and lawfully. You must:

  • Comply with all applicable local, state, national, and international laws
  • Respect the rights and dignity of others
  • Use the Service only for its intended purposes
  • Maintain the security and integrity of your account

2. Prohibited Content

You may not upload, share, or distribute content through the Service that:

2.1 Illegal Content

  • Violates any applicable law or regulation
  • Promotes or facilitates illegal activities
  • Contains or distributes child sexual abuse material (CSAM)
  • Facilitates human trafficking or exploitation
  • Involves the sale of illegal drugs or controlled substances

2.2 Infringing Content

  • Infringes on copyrights, trademarks, patents, or other intellectual property rights of others
  • Contains unauthorized samples, recordings, or other copyrighted material
  • Misrepresents ownership or authorship of musical works or recordings
  • Violates the rights of performers, songwriters, or other creators

2.3 Harmful Content

  • Contains malware, viruses, or other harmful code
  • Is designed to phish, scam, or defraud others
  • Contains threats of violence or promotes terrorism
  • Promotes self-harm or suicide
  • Is defamatory, libelous, or intended to harass others

2.4 Inappropriate Content

  • Contains pornographic or sexually explicit material (unless compliant with all applicable laws and properly labeled)
  • Promotes hate speech or discrimination based on race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or other protected characteristics
  • Contains gratuitous violence or gore
  • Is designed to shock or disturb without artistic merit

3. Prohibited Activities

You may not engage in the following activities:

3.1 Security Violations

  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Service, other accounts, or systems
  • Probe, scan, or test the vulnerability of any system or network
  • Bypass or circumvent security measures or access controls
  • Intercept or monitor data or traffic without authorization
  • Share your account credentials with others or access others' accounts

3.2 Service Abuse

  • Use the Service in a way that could damage, disable, or impair it
  • Overload the Service or use excessive bandwidth or storage beyond reasonable use
  • Use automated tools (bots, scrapers, crawlers) without our express permission
  • Interfere with other users' access to or use of the Service
  • Circumvent usage limits, rate limits, or storage quotas

3.3 Misuse of Features

  • Use sharing features to distribute spam or unsolicited content
  • Create fake or misleading split sheets or royalty documentation
  • Impersonate others or misrepresent your identity or affiliations
  • Use the Service to send mass unsolicited emails or messages

3.4 Fraudulent Activities

  • Engage in any form of fraud or deception
  • Create accounts for the purpose of violating these terms
  • Use the Service to launder money or engage in financial crimes
  • Falsely claim ownership of works or recordings you do not own
  • Manipulate royalty tracking or split information to deceive others

4. Sharing and Collaboration Guidelines

4.1 Responsible Sharing

When sharing content through the Service:

  • Only share content you have the right to share
  • Use appropriate access controls and permissions
  • Respect the confidentiality of projects and unreleased material
  • Honor any non-disclosure agreements or confidentiality obligations

4.2 Comment Guidelines

When leaving comments or feedback:

  • Be respectful and constructive
  • Do not harass, bully, or intimidate others
  • Do not post spam, advertisements, or promotional content
  • Do not share personal information about others without consent

4.3 Client Upload Guidelines

If you enable client upload features, you are responsible for managing those submissions and ensuring they comply with this policy.

5. Music Industry Standards

As a music production platform, we expect users to:

  • Accurately represent credits, splits, and ownership information
  • Respect agreements made with collaborators, labels, and publishers
  • Not use the Service to circumvent contractual obligations
  • Properly clear samples and obtain necessary licenses for all content
  • Honor exclusive agreements and not distribute content in violation of such agreements

When reporting, please include as much detail as possible, including links or descriptions of the violating content and the reason you believe it violates this policy.

7. Enforcement

We reserve the right to investigate and take appropriate action against anyone who violates this policy. Actions may include:

  • Warning the user
  • Removing or disabling access to violating content
  • Temporarily suspending account access
  • Permanently terminating accounts for serious or repeated violations
  • Reporting illegal activity to law enforcement authorities

We may take these actions without prior notice if we determine, in our sole discretion, that a violation has occurred. Our failure to act on a violation does not waive our right to act on subsequent or similar violations.

Please include your account information and a detailed explanation of why you believe the action was taken in error. We will review appeals on a case-by-case basis but are not obligated to reverse any enforcement action.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Acceptable Use Policy from time to time. We will notify users of significant changes by posting the updated policy and revising the "Last updated" date. Your continued use of the Service after changes to this policy constitutes acceptance of the modified terms.
