How it works

The drum machine runs a 16-step sequencer with four instruments — kick, snare, closed hi-hat, and open hi-hat. Click any cell in the grid to toggle a hit on or off. Press play and the sequencer loops through the pattern at whatever tempo you set.

Start with one of the preset patterns — basic rock, four-on-the-floor, boom bap, or reggaeton — and tweak from there. Each instrument has its own volume slider so you can balance the mix without changing the pattern itself.

On mobile, the grid shows one bar at a time with tabs to switch between bars. On desktop, you see all 16 steps at once.

Why use a drum machine?

Sometimes you just need a beat to write over. Instead of searching for a loop or loading up a full DAW, you can pull up a pattern in seconds and start working on a melody, a chord progression, or a vocal idea.

It's also useful for practicing. If you're working on timing as a guitarist or bassist, playing along to a simple drum pattern at a set tempo is more musical than a plain metronome click.

If you're sketching song ideas and want to capture them properly, Songkeeper helps you organize songs, track recording versions, and manage your production workflow from idea to release.
